Customer Reviews:

  AVOID (19 March 2010)
First review I've been prompted in to writing. Upon receiving this product, I immediately backed up all my data, only to have the external power supply cable fail. Have to say I'm extremely disappointed and should have done my homework like I do with everything else I buy. I thought Western Digital was a big enough name to be trusted, but not so with this product. Absolute waste of time, money and effort. Ridiculous!

MAC users - format link on Instructions (17 March 2010)
Hard drive works fine, but MAC users need to re-format it first. There is a link on the instructions booklet which takes you to the WD site. The plug adapter puzzled me for a short time, but the 3 point plug clips in at right angles to the adapter and then you close it with a screwdriver.

Qick and easy (26 February 2010)
Great simple to set-up drive, would have preferred some back up software system with it - it is just drag and drop!

Great but Power supply has died after 5 months (10 February 2010)
I bought two of these 5 months ago to work as a rotating backup. Came home tonight to find the power supply (wall wart) has died on one of the drives. The drives do work great and I can easily repair/replace the power supply myself, but it is just a shame that a cheap power supply can mar an otherwise fine product. If I hadn't bought two drives I'd be still wondering about the state of my data, as it stands nothing has been lost.

The power supply is manufactured by Ktec, model KSAS0241200150D5 (4064-705058-199) .

Despite this I am still happy with the purchase.

Western Digital Elements Power supply problem (09 February 2010)
The external does exactly what it is supposed to do but and it is a very big but it has a design fault. Its power supply connecter is the same size as my laptop. One day I was a bit dopey and put the wrong power supply in. This has caused the whole unit to fail. This is what you may expect but I would have hoped for the unit to have an internal fuse. IT DOES NOT. Putting the wrong power supply in must have happened to lots of people, why is there no fuse? If you buy one be careful with power supply. I am still trying to recover my data!
