Customer Reviews:

Good in parts but poor AM (13 September 2007)
Although FM reception is good, I found AM very poor - lots of noise and virtually no reception when product is held upright. Tape quality is good as expected. Controls are fiddly - too few buttons. Battery life good, especially considering only takes 1 X AA. Design of battery compartment poor though - after using for about 18 months, broke after dropping a couple of feet, rendering it virtually unusable. Would not buy this product again.

  EXCELLENT ! (08 April 2006)
I was a bit wary about buying this item after reading the review by the person who said I'd have to be under a radio mast to get a good radio signal. I'm glad I followed the other reviwers - this is a great item for the money. I've already pre-set the stations I need and pick them up very well. Excellent item !

A Nice Piece of Kit. (22 October 2005)
I purchased this mainly to listen to tapes for some coursework that I do. However, the radio on it is extremely good and I did not realise how improved the new Walkmans are. If you have a need to play tapes and also want a reasonable portable radio, then buy this.

  sony walkman (05 October 2004)
Having only just bought the walkman, and mainly for cassette use, I was surprised how good the radio is. I have travelled to different parts of the country and have had no problems tuning it in to both national and local stations. My wife now uses it as a radio inside a building and has no problems with reception. I recommend it.

  Phoney Sony (25 February 2004)
I purchased this walkman to listen to whilst walking to work and a radio was a prerequisite for me, hence why I chose not to go down the CD walkman route. But sadly now, I am trying to find a few tapes so I actually have something to listen to on it!

In short, the radio, despite claiming to be able to store 40 radio station presets, is really poor. I live near Reading and I can only pick up 2 or 3 crackly stations - 2 national and 1 local. The tape machine part is as you'd expect and does the job. However, in my opinion it's a pretty poor performance and even more disappointing because it is a Sony; frankly, buying a cheaper brand might have actually done a better job. So if you will listen more to the radio, unless you live under a radio mast I'd think twice before buying this model!
