| ![]() | Customer Reviews:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Steer well clear! (22 November 2008)Totally died after only a couple of months and still under guarantee. Seagate are of no help what so ever. The ask a crazy amount of money to retrieve lost data and only after several very expensive phone calls did they agree to replace it. That was two months ago and they haven't done this yet after sending several follow up e-mails. I'm now looking at alternative brands and strongly recommend to anyone thinking of buying one of these to save their money and look for an alternative. I lost a lot of valuable data from this unit but simply couldn't afford the £350 they wanted to ATTEMPT to get it back. They want this amount just to look at the drive with no guarantee of finding it. My unit was sent via courtier with signed for delivery to the base in Holland but they still deny having it. Not only am I out pocket but I don't even have the broken drive anymore. My advice... don't buy this! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Invaluable (17 November 2008)I've now owned this drive for almost a year - mainly for media storage and to occasionally back up my own documents. The drive is elegant and sits neatly on the end of a desk, and looks rather sleek. It is quiet at all times, even when being scanned or during transfers. Transfers themselves are quick and reliable. It is also easy to set up - I was up and running with it within minutes. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() WARNING - UNRELIABLE (13 November 2008)I suppose you get what you pay for. I've been using one of these for just over ten month (Nov 08). It fell over onto it's side, no great fall or particularly hard landing, now it does not work. Having searched the 'net for a clue as to why it should stop working I am amazed at the number of people out there who have had similar experiences. ANyhow, I've lost my lifetime collection of photographs of my family, places, holidays etc - which were on that drive for storage - and my backed up programme files. Seagate warranty will replace the hard drive, but quote 750 US dollars as an average for data recovery. Do yourself a favour - give this one a miss. I would have given this zero stars but it's not possible with the Amazon rating system. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Never again (01 November 2008)I bought two of these disks. One didn`t work at all on arrival (no power) The other worked for two days then packed up -no power like the other one. Total waste of money. Am currently trying to get the first one replaced but can`t get the second one changed as it involves sending it back and it now contains all my private info (bank details etc) that I can`t remove as it doesen`t turn on. May as well chuck the money down the drain and save yourself a lot of time. Will never touch Seagate again ! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Excellent drive if treated with respect (31 October 2008)I purchased this drive to keep an additional backup of my photographs and as such I am pleased with the performance. Initially I did have problems with the drive becoming unavailable at random intervals, but this would appear to be a problem when the PC is using another USB device whilst accessing this disk. For example, I cannot print a document or run my scanner while copying files to this drive because there is a good chance the drive will 'vanish' and no longer be accessible without restarting Windows. Whether this is a limitation of USB, the drive or my ageing PC I know not, and it isn't really a problem now that I know of this pitfall. The drive management software is quite basic. It can test the drive, change the 'sleep' time and such exciting things but doesn't have an option to stop the drive prior to disconnection. This is a little inconvenient because the USB manager in Windows quite often thinks the drive is in use when it isn't and so won't stop it. However, I do think it was worth purchasing and has been very reliable. In addition, Amazon really knows how to pack items like this. The parcel was about three times the size of the boxed drive with an inordinate amount of padding. |
