Fairly nice keyboard (27 July 2010)

I bought this to replace a logitech diNovo which had a broken key after several years of good service. I have a cluttered desk and don't need a numeric pad so I like the small wireless keyboards. I chose this one over the new LogiTech diNovo because it was much less expensive and had less multi-media stuff - my PC is a work machine and I don't want lighting under the keys or stereo controls.

The keys on my old Logitech DiNovo feel nicer to type on than this Microsoft one. On the other hand this one is not bad - it is much better than the cheapo Dell keyboard that came with the PC or a low end Logitech Wireless keyboard. There are better but this is not bad to type on and quite acceptable.

There is a slightly disconcerting delay if you haven't used the keyboard for a few minutes then start typing again. I suspect it goes into a power down mode to save battery power and needs to wake up before responding again. This doesn't happen on my old Logitech wireless keyboard - on the other hand it had 6 AA batteries and this has two. So its a tradeoff - lag against low power. Its a minor nuisance but something you get used to.

Overall, if your not bothered about the price and like multimedia features I'd go for the new diNovo otherwise this is a good compromise choice.

Learning to Love (23 July 2010)
My first MS Keyboard minus number pad and so far so good. Having to get used to using the Function key controls more than before especially for Home and End controls which I never knew I used so often. Small and concise with the only drawback being the inadequate rubber pads - just not enough height to overcome a less than perfect desk surface. A thin rubberised pad has fixed that when at home. For those with no need for a numberpad and all that keyboard width it's a good purchase. Luckily I had a bluetooth adapter spare having thought my new latop came bluetooth enabled. You live and learn.

  Almost perfect (01 July 2010)
Background/situation: home in the UK, but spend most time abroad working in strange places and sometimes with questionable people, long haul flights etc, so my working life is pretty mobile.

I already have a Mattias folding keyboard UK version as at 63 I find it best to work with an external screen or push the Toshiba notebook (12.1" screen) away to about arms' length (I have also started to work at my desk standing up, have modified my home office and assignment location accordingly, has helped my back and concentration). I was going to buy the MS 6000 anyway, but it's just as well I did because the Mattias has developed a fault within one month of warranty expiry deadline (in my favour).

I agree with most of the positive points expressed by other reviewers. When I unpacked it last week, I was a little dismayed to see how flat the keyboard is, no folding pegs to raise the back. However, after a week, it's not problem, the keys are excellent, the dimensions ideal for my smaller hands/fingers. These dimensions have been achieved by separating the main keyboard from the numeric keypad. No wires makes it easy to move the main keyboard away and pull the numeric keypad in for numbers entry.

The main keyboard just fits into the sleeve in my Redoxx Airborne backpack with the Toshiba and a collapsible stand (Aviator by Keynamics in US), and therein lies my one criticism. The numeric keypad has its own padded material slip case, the main keypad nothing. It may sound like a minor thing, but as a one-man business I HAVE to take care of my IT kit. In the meantime I am using bubble wrap packaging, but Microsoft could and should have included a protective slip case. Airport security sometimes makes passengers take stuff out of their cabin bag and then repack it hurriedly in busy places.

Here in the Middle East, I must look for a local craftsman to make me a suitable slip case, preferably with sufficient padding, zip. I might even visit the old part of the city and get a leather one made, for a lot cheaper than most other places.

  Great keyboard (04 June 2010)
I bought this as a replacement for a Logitech Cordless Desktop Wave - with Mouse which was starting to show it's age after a couple of years. This keyboard is not only easier to type on, it's also got a better curve to it, more reliable (or at least so far, after 2 months).

It's just big enough to be a permanent keyboard without causing any wrist strain, has very light keys which allows for quick typing, and doesn't have loads of extra functions that you don't really need.

All round a great little keyboard.

nice but the first unit is faulty (18 February 2010)
the keyboard is quite stylish and comfortable, but my unit stopped responding on the day i received it, but amazon is replacing my item, great service from amazon as usual. hopefully my replacement works.
