Customer Reviews:

Robust, fast but a bit big & some reliability issues (07 September 2010)
This device is really aimed at Pro's who don't mind paying the premium for a product that saves them time. Coupled with a Firewire 800 port (one that is true 800 speed, not on that is bolted onto a 400 speed internal board as some of the other reviewers seem to have experienced) and a Pro spec CF card, this reader is virtually unmatched. I regularly empty Sandisk 4Gb Extreme 4 flash cards in a little over a minute. So, it is fit for purpose and it is capable of operating at blistering speeds - if you make sure to know what you are doing.

It does have it's issues though. I don't really like the insertion method for the cards, it's a little clunky and occasionally the guide rails don't do a good job of easing the card into the right place. The two lengths of firewire cable are good however, allowing a choice when using laptop or desktop. The construction and build quality is great. Mine hasn't even got a mark on it after 6 months of Pro use on location and in the studio.

The main issue though, as mentioned by another reviewer, is that is can sometimes fail to recognise the card. 9 times out of 10 I can land the blame for this on my computer (all Mac's) but the question remains, why does the computer have an issue with this reader, and not my other reader? (a Sandisk one, which has never had a single similar fault). This can be a frustrating experience, though it is limited to 1 in 50 uses of the reader so is not an insurmountable problem.

Overall, this is a top quality piece of kit. Build quality is first rate and the flexibility to daisy chain is excellent. But it's not without its flaws and whilst I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it, just be aware that you may face the occasional bout of frustration as it fails to work properly.

Blistering speed although big and expensive (01 June 2010)
This is a true Firewire 800 product, not a 400 with an adapter. As a result it is VERY fast and is exactly what I wanted.

On the minus side, there is really no reason for this thing to cost the same as a half-terabyte hard drive or to be about 6 times the size of a CF card (by volume). Remeber that you are comparing it with £10 readers that accomodate 7 types of cards in roughly 1.5 times the size...

Regularly fails to read and or be recognised by the Mac . . . (06 May 2010)
Only recognises the first card inserted. Subsequent cards fail to appear on desktop. Restart needed EVERY time between cards.
Grrr.
Sandisk here I come.

lightning fast CF CARD READER (11 October 2009)
This empties CF cards at a frightening speed, around 15 seconds per GB. If you need this sort of performance this device is for you.

Ultra short firewire 9/9 cable provided is useful.

It's not a big issue but the device is designed so that it interlocks with similar units. I can't imagine why I would need more than one of these so it would be neater without the protruding lugs.

Fast and easy to use (23 September 2009)
Being a Mac user the ability to have a firewire 800 peripheral is always a desired option.

Had hunted around for such a device and settled on the Lexar. Transfer rates are swift and it comes with an additional FW800 port for daisy chaining.

Plugged in and it was ready to play with. Def a product to get.
