ok tape deck (21 July 2010)
The Ion tape express is ok.

As i see it there is two problems.

1. The motor isn't strong enough. If you encounter tight tapes the tape deck wound run it.

2. They use Itunes. In my humble opion this it the largest problem, being a hard core Apple hater

for software i recoment using software like audacity until ion deliveres serious software.

Great Idea - Poor Unit (14 July 2010)
I bought this unit to turn my old cassette recordings into MP3 & Audio files and was very disappointed with the quality of the transfer. Many of the recordings (despite playing fine on a standard stereo tape deck), were so distorted that it sounded like they were being played under water. Due to tapes being a fairly out-moded medium, there will be some age to the original tape recordings, but even so, the result should be far better than this for the money.

The unit itself is light weight and has a cheap look & feel to it, and I'm sad to say, that this is the quality of the output as well. The limited software is very easy to use, but you will need to download i-tunes to access the saved file ... that's if you can get an acceptable quality output from it that is.

  Tape to MP3 Converter (28 June 2010)
The tape device itself works perfectly and is fairly simple to operate. However, it should have its own independent software. Its a shame that you are required to install i-tunes in order to operate it through the pc as i do not own [nor want] an i-pod and would rather not install additional software that i do not require especially when i already have library software for my creative zen.

Easy to use (24 June 2010)
I found this to be easy to use and very handy for loading tapes on to my laptop. The software is very straightforward. Loading is in real time and so a bit slow, but then it is being converted from analogue to digital. There are no batteries included so you need to provide your own two AA batteries.

Don't be put off by some of the bad reviews, excellent product (04 June 2010)
Really easy to use - for those that couldn't understand the software I'll just quote Douglas Adams, Keep banging the rocks together, guys!!!

for those that complained that it seemed flimsily made - no more so than my old walkman - besides you're only going to use it to transfer your tape collection not carry it around with you everywhere like I used to with my old walkman - which I still have and is still going strong by the way.
